For applicants under the age of 46, Exeter Family now only need a GP Report if their benefit is more than £5,000 a month.
The Exeter based mutual said the move was part of an ongoing drive to streamline the application process and improve the journey for advisers.
Commenting on the move, Head of Operations Alan Ord said:
“Income protection sales have never reached their potential and one of the major reasons has been the complex and sometimes lengthy application and underwriting process - we’re determined to tackle this.
This is just the first in a number of enhancements we are working on to make our application process quicker and smoother than it has ever been. This is essentially a simple step, but one which will have an immediate impact for advisers.”
